Petane 'Puriri' Chardonnay 2020
Bright, fresh, varietal and attractive bouquet with a pure fruit core of white fleshed stone fruits then citrus, some floral notes then sweet oak. Nice weight and texture from occasional barrel stirring and a mix of seasoned and new oak, hazel nut, with some macadamia and vanilla in the background. Fine dusty wood tannins keep the texture flowing while acidity and alcohol carry flavour through to a lengthy finish.
This was a hot and dry vintage with almost zero rain right through summer, dry farming practices since planting day, along with being herbicide free under vine, controlled by mowing no tillage this has encouraged the vine roots to grow deep into the sandy Esk River loam in search for water and nutrients, giving a more expressive wine with highly flavoured smaller berries. 70/30 mix of two clones; 548 and 95 this wine will only improve with careful cellaring for another 7 years +
A delicate couple of handpicks followed by whole bunch pressing, some of the juice was pumped direct from the juice tray into barrels the rest was settled over night then transferred into a mix of 20% new and seasoned French barriques and hogsheads, indigenous vineyard yeast ferment. Post primary barrel stirring commenced every so often, to keep the yeast in suspension adding a layer of complexity and impart some yeasty goodness. Barrel aged on yeast lee for 11 months. Malolactic fermentation has happened naturally, no fining with minimal sulphur added prior to bottling.

Puriri Block Chardonnay (No 1668)
Bright, fresh, varietal and attractive bouquet with a pure fruit core of white fleshed stone fruits then citrus, some floral notes then sweet oak with vanilla and mild toasty wood suggestions. Lovely weight and texture with flavours that mirror the nose - vanilla and peach, apple and lemon. Fine dusty wood tannins add texture while acidity and alcohol carry flavour through a lengthy finish. Balanced and well made with best drinking from 2022 through 2026.
