Petane Gewürztraminer 2018

Petane Gewürztraminer 2018

The Drinking

Bright, golden-yellow colour with lemon-green hues. The nose is full and voluminous saturated with lychees, gingerbread and musk, the floral aroma grows with some glass swirl and aeration. The mouthfeel is soft and fine in texture. This is a gewürtztraminer with drive and power, carrying to a strong, long and complex dry finish. Made for the serious and patient wine aficionado, this wine has potential for bottle aging 6+ year with careful cellaring.

The Growing

A very hot, dry spring and summer put us ahead of the game and in the best shape possible to deal with an unexpected weather bomb that struck in early autumn. The Bellbird block has some of the heaviest soil on the vineyard and therefore was not able to escape unscathed, some crop loss and berry splitting occurred but with the ensuing sunny days and light crop load some excellent noble rot developed. Due to partial crop loss, additional fruit was sourced from further afield in Havelock North giving us a full press load and an intriguing and complex Gewürztraminer.

The Making

Handpicked fruit from two vineyards and whole bunch pressed, chilled and settled over night, then racked into tank and seasoned barrels and fermented with indigenous yeast. Post ferment the wine was left on lees to evolve for 10 months prior to bottling.
