Petane Station Viognier 2014
This is a full bodied Viognier with floral notes on the nose leading to summer stone fruits on the palate. New oak barrels have given the wine an integrated pine kernel and spice component. Warming alcohol is delicately balanced with gentle acidity. This is a well-structured, elegant wine that will reward cellaring.
Phenologically ripe grapes were hand picked late in the growing season. The hot dry summer of 2014 produced some raisoned berries, concentrating the flavours, to produce an oily textured wine.
Whole berry clusters were gently pressed and the juice cold settled. A Rhone yeast strain was used to inoculate the juice and it was fermented in new French oak barrels. A long and slow ferment took place over two months capturing the full spectrum of flavours.
