Petane Station Syrah 2015
Aged in a mix of new and seasoned French barriques, this is an elegant Syrah with finely integrated tannins. Aromas of liquorice, violets and spice on the nose lead
to red cherries and espresso on the palate.
The grapes for this Syrah were grown on the river gravels of the Te Mata, Havelock North growing district. The Indian summer of 2015 provided a long hot dry vintage which provided extended ripening time, concentrating the flavours and thickening the skins for extra tannins and palate weight.
Handpicked from the vines these grapes were destemmed then cold soaked for fourteen days to gain maximum colour and tannin extraction from the skins, giving the wine firmness and structure. The berries were pressed and the juice pumped into a mix of 30% new and 70% neutral French barrels. The wine was then aged in barrels for 18 months.
