Hau Hau Block Hawke's Bay Pinot Gris 2019 

For starters just try to peel your eyes away from the glorious golden-ness that pours into the glass in order to command your arm to actually raise it to your nose.  You'll be hit by roast pear, caramelised, spiced apple and pecan pie perfume which, if you can then persuade your hand to lower the goblet toward your mouth, will send a tsunami of tropical tang across the tastebuds. This tiny estate located in Eskdale has personality-plus when it comes to pinot gris production, consistently turning out rich, dry, mouthfilling styles that really satisfy.  Yum!

The Growing

Our dry farmed vines had to work hard this season as the conditions from mid-summer to late autumn were hot and dry. Crop thinning, trimming and a late leaf pluck all combined well to enhance ripening, we went late with the leaf removal to reduce sun burn to the bunches.

The Making

Hand picked over 3 days, starting on the 27th of March and finishing on the 5th of April. After a WBP the juice was settled over night then racked into a stainless ferment tank. After selecting our favoured yeast culture, a nice cool ferment started, this slow ferment has allowed the wine to retain the delicate fruit flavours, post ferment the wine was left on its yeast lees to evolve, then fined, crossflow filtered and bottled.
